Sounding Out a Solution
Besides acoustics, the solution took into consideration many separate needs of the music room.  A combination of SONEX Panels attached to portions of the walls and SONEX Baffles hung from girders met all the requirements.

Convoluted SONEX Panels are made to be mounted on a flat surface, typically with a suitable construction adhesive such as illbruck’s AcouSTIC adhesive (item# PA-02).  SONEX Baffles, with convolutions on both front and back, are made to be hung from a ceiling. 

In deciding what available acoustic materials to use and how to place them, the SONEX distributor had to consider:

Safety
For a public building filled with children, fire safety had to be a primary consideration.  Any chosen acoustic material had to be rated Class 1 for flame spread and smoke density.

Maintenance
Keeping a classroom clean is a tough enough job without adding high-maintenance materials.  SONEX Panels and SONEX Baffles placed high and out of kids’ reach require no maintenance at all – a custodian’s dream.

Aesthetics
The ideal solution should make the room the kind of place where students would want to play music…and where teachers would enjoy spending each day.

Ease of Installation
For cost considerations, and to ensure the ease of making any future changes, installation would be handled by the school’s own maintenance staff.

The choice of SONEX Panels and SONEX Baffles met all of these needs.  The exclusive willtec foam used in SONEX products is not only rated Class 1 for low flammability and smoke production, but it is also FIBER-FREE and will not contribute to airborne contaminants.  SONEX Panels and SONEX Baffles are also easy to maintain and install.
