Restaurant and Bar Soundproofing
Memtech Acoustical can transform your restaurant into a quieter, more pleasant dinning experience for your customers.
Many restaurants and bars experience excessive noise during busy times, requiring patrons to raise their voices to talk, and this can result in an uncomfortable dining experience. This noise will often result in a ‘background din’ that can disrupt the desired atmosphere, and create communication issues between customers and waiters.
In most cases, this ‘annoyance’ noise is caused by excessive reverberation (“echo”) in the room, which is due to the presence of hard walls, floors and ceilings. These surfaces act as excellent sound reflectors, and thus noise is subjectively amplified throughout the restaurant. Reducing reverberation requires the careful application of noise-absorbing materials at strategic locations throughout the room. A variety of highly effective products are available for this purpose, and can be designed and installed so as to blend-in with the aesthetics of virtually any restaurant. Fabric panels, colorful and shaped acoustic ‘clouds’ and other products are very effective at minimizing sound reflections. Should some amount of reverberation be desired to create a ‘lively’ room effect (without excessive echo), these products can be spaced and located such that the room may be ‘tuned’ to achieve the desired effect.
In other cases, certain rooms may seem acoustically ‘dead’, which can result in an unpleasant effect which imparts a lack of liveliness or feelings of uneasiness to customers. This problem can be corrected via the installation of sound reflection or diffusion panels.
In some situations, acoustic isolation may be required between adjoining dining & banquet rooms or from outdoor locations, such that loud conversation or background traffic noise does not negatively impact noise levels. This requires the installation of noise-blocking materials, which can often be installed without changing the room’s appearance or design.
In venues, where music may be playing, high levels of reverberation may cause ‘muddling’ of voices or instruments. MEMTECH ACOUSTICAL can also assist with the proper selection and installation of public address and music playback systems, including optimum microphone and speaker placements for small musician platforms that are often located in bar areas. Other issues, such as room resonances (often causing a ‘booming’ effect during low bass tones) can be reduced via baffling, bass traps, and/or minor modifications to the room. MEMTECH ACOUSTICAL has worked with many restaurants and bars to resolve difficult noise and reverberation concerns.
